Create API Security Level

In this procedure, you will create a new Autotask API security level that allows associated API resources to impersonate other Autotask contacts and resources when making API calls.

To create a new Autotask API security level with rights to impersonate other contacts and resources:

note

In order to complete the following steps, you will need to login to Autotask as a user with full administrative rights.

Procedure

  1. Login to Autotask
  2. Hover the top-left Autotask mega-menu; click Admin
  3. On the top row of tabs, click Account Settings and Users
  4. Click to expand the section Resources/Users (HR)
  5. In the Security section, click Security Levels
  6. Review your current list of security levels. If you already have a security level called API User w/ Full Impersonation Rights (API-only), then you can skip the remainder of these steps.
  7. On the existing security level called API User (system) (API-Only), right-click, then click Copy Security Level
  8. Set the Name field to API User w/ Full Impersonation Rights
  9. At the bottom, on the Web Services API section, click Full Permission
  10. At the top of the window, click Save & Close

Impersonation Notes

If you intend MSPintegrations to utilize impersonation in the Autotask API, you should check each Autotask user's security level to ensure they can be impersonated. See the requirements section of our document describing Autotask impersonation.
